VALLEY CHRISTIAN CENTER:  45 Years of Ministry

"Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."    --Philippians 1:6

Glancing At The Past
Only a few interested people were here in the beginning. However, on July 7, 1963, something was begun in the hearts of a few that would touch the lives of many in the next generations.

Curtis and Gloria Smith, members of Bethel Temple Church in Hayward, had moved to Dublin's felding community in 1961. They continued to worship at Bethel until their pastor, James Swanson, spoke with them about beginning services in their new home. They agreed to do so and added a room with space for eighty chairs, a pulpit and a piano.  The neighborhood was canvassed and services began with a small nucleus of people.

Eventually, the group grew to over one hundred persons and moved to the multi-purpose room of Dublin Elementary School. Here VCC remained until March of 1966, at which time the "little chapel" was completed at 7400 San Ramon Road.

As God blessed, it became necessary to move the Sunday services to the Dublin High School Little Theater, where services were held for the next seven years. It was a "portable church" in every way as Sunday equipment was moved in and out. Pulpit... piano... organ... public address system... choir risers... chairs... and anything else that was needed. During this time, preparations were made on a 49-acre site in the hills of Dublin for a permanent home for the growing VCC family.

In November of 1982, we dedicated the first buildings on the hill. Since that time we have built several phases to accomodate Sunday worship and education needs, as well as weekday facilities for Small World Preschool and Daycare, Valley Christian Schools and CCTV-28.
